Pacific expands operations to three new African markets

HARARE, Zimbabwe - Pacific Cigarette Company has announced its strategic expansion into three new African markets - Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia - marking a significant milestone in the company's evolution into a truly Pan-African tobacco manufacturer. The expansion represents a $15 million investment over the next two years.

The move comes after extensive market research and regulatory approvals in all three target countries. PCC's expansion strategy focuses on establishing local partnerships, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to the economic development of these markets while maintaining the company's commitment to quality and responsible business practices.

"This expansion represents the natural evolution of Pacific Cigarette Company from a Zimbabwean success story to a regional powerhouse," said CEO Michael Josephat. "We're not just exporting products; we're bringing our values of quality, innovation, and community engagement to new markets."

In Botswana, PCC will establish a distribution hub in Gaborone and partner with local retailers to ensure widespread product availability. The company expects to create 150 direct and indirect jobs in the country within the first year of operations.

The Namibian operation will be based in Windhoek, with plans to establish a regional office that will serve as the coordination center for the company's southern African operations outside Zimbabwe. This facility will employ approximately 80 people and serve as a training center for regional staff.

In Zambia, PCC will focus on the Copperbelt and Lusaka markets, leveraging existing trade relationships and the strong economic ties between Zimbabwe and Zambia. The company plans to invest in local tobacco farming initiatives, potentially benefiting over 500 small-scale farmers.

The expansion will introduce PCC's popular brands, including Madison, Everest, and Pacific, to new consumers while adapting marketing strategies to local preferences and cultural nuances. The company has committed to maintaining its high manufacturing standards across all markets.

PCC's expansion strategy includes significant investment in local communities through education, healthcare, and infrastructure development programs, mirroring the company's successful community engagement model in Zimbabwe.

Industry analysts view this expansion as a strategic move that positions PCC to compete effectively with multinational tobacco companies while maintaining its African identity and values.
